Best movies of 2011
In 2011 I’ve watched 164 movies, 38 less then in 2010. 82 in the cinema, 39 on DVD, 5 on BluRay and 38 on my new NAS/MediaPlayer. The average grade I gave this year was a 6.6 (including older movies and re-watches). The lowest grade, a 2.0, was for The Woman. A boring and complete unrealistic movie while it tries so hard to be realistic.
10. Trollhunter
A movie not trying to be realistic, but gives you the creepy feeling it is real. This surprisingly good movie from Norway almost makes you believe in Trolls. A ‘found-footage’ horror movie with a good dose of humor to show how crazy it actually is.
9. Paul
A comedy among my favorite movies is something that won’t happen often. This Sci-Fi comedy written by and starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost contains tons of references to other Sci-Fi movies. Even if you don’t get the references, the strange alien Paul will keep you entertained for sure.
Horror, is Hollywood het verleerd?
Als ervaren horror kijker viel het mij op dat het erg lang geleden is dat er een goede horror film is gekomen uit Hollywood. De gemiddelde horror film is tegenwoordig een remake of een vervolg op een al compleet uitgemolken reeks waar geen einde aan lijkt te komen. Remakes van buitenlandse horror films komen ook steeds meer in trek bij Hollywood.

Shazam ‘Hands Up’ Music Test
I’m a big fan of the dance sub-genre called ‘Hands Up’. Which is pretty well known in Germany. While reading an article about how Shazam gathers new music I came to the idea of testing how big ‘Hands Up’ is in Shazam. I will include some italo-dance and euro-dance songs, which are related genres. I will only use commercial released songs in the test!
For this test I’ll be using songs from the years: 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011.

Best music of 2010
Last year I have collected a total of 7.560 songs (63GB) released in 2010. 4.065 songs on 149 albums and 4.465 songs on vinyl, cds or web releases. The remaining 30 songs consist of livesets and bootleg songs. On my PC i have listened to 8320 song this year. Sadly my plays on portable devices are not counted, which will be higher.
My 5 most listened artist in 2010 (on my pc) are: Scooter (106 plays) ItaloBrothers (51 plays) Groove Coverage (49 plays) Cascada (48 plays) Showtek (44 plays). As you can see these numbers are low, which concludes I have listened to a lot of unique artists over the last year.
My top 5 favorite songs is based on feelings rather then statistics! It’s funny to see that only two of these songs are in top 5 statistics too. Here is my personal top 5:

Best movies of 2010
In the year 2010 I watched a total of 202 movies. 82 of them in the cinema, 96 on dvd, 19 on the internet, 3 on bluray and 2 on tv. The average grade i gave was a 6.7 and 20% was a re-watch. The worst movie of my year was: The Final. I’m not scared of some torture horror, but this movie had totally nothing. A special mention to the dutch movie New Kids Turbo. It is not a good movie but I haven’t laughed this much during a movie for a long time! Now my personal top 10:

For sure the best vampire movie of the year. The story is not that good, but there is a lot of brute violence which makes it very fun to watch.
9. The Box

Although the critics and many other say this movie sucks, I like it. The little boy in the bathroom scene is really sick. The whole plot behind it is a bit too strange but surprising nonetheless.
Privacy and Google
I wrote this article for a study assignment. The target audience are senior high school students. It tells the story of which information Google collects from your internet usage. The article is in dutch.
Google is de populairste zoekmachine van Nederland. Maar Google is meer dan alleen een zoekmachine, denk hierbij aan YouTube, GMail en het advertentiesysteem. Google houdt jouw gebruik van deze websites in de gaten om je daarna advertenties te laten zien die het beste bij je passen. Maar welke informatie verzamelen ze precies en wat doen ze ermee?

Remove Homegroup icon
If you are running Windows 7 on your computer you might have noticed that there is a Homegroup icon on your desktop.
Homegroup is a new feature of Windows 7 that enables easy file-sharing with other Windows 7 computers in your network.
Even if you don’t use this feature, the icon will still be on your desktop. You can not remove this icon the normal way.
I’ve found that some register changes will remove/hide the icon.
